Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and are abundant in our food supply. Of the 20 kinds of amino acids
that serve as the building blocks of protein, 11 can be synthesised in the human body when they are needed. The
remaining 9 amino acids cannot be synthesised in the body. These are called "essential" amino acids because we must obtain them from our food. Although the other amino acids are classed as non-essential, they also play a vital role in how our bodies work.
Amino acids provide benefits in a number of different areas:
